This Central Excise, Thane-II Commissionerat has been carved out from erstwhile Bombay-II Commissionerate and created with effect from 01.11.2002.

This is a part and parcel of Central Excise Mumbai Zone-I, under Central Board of Exicse, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India.

The Commissionerate comprises of 5 Central Excise Divisions and 1 Inland Container Depot.
